A mega IT data center will be set up in a 19-acre industrial estate in Powai, CIO News, ET CIO

A mega computer data center will emerge in Powai. The state’s Department of Urban Development authorized the conversion of 7.7 hectares (approximately 19 acres) in Powai from a Special Development Zone to an industrial zone. This will allow Yotta from the Hiranandani Group to set up the data center in Powai.

In the 2034 development plan, the non-development zone was renamed to the special development zone.

The notification stated that the company was based in Panvel and wanted to establish a mega data center in the village of Powai. The company said it will create jobs, in addition to creating a supply chain that will provide GST to the state government.

In a letter to the department, HGP Community, owner of the Yotta data center division, said its customers would invest in dedicated server hardware and wanted land to establish the new data center.

The authorized ground surface index is 1 as provided for in the industrial zone. The company has already paid a 50% premium of Rs 16 crore (during the relaxation period) to BMC.

Some of the conditions for setting up the mega data center include verifying if the land is in the eco-sensitive area of Thane Flamingo Sanctuary and ensuring that the data center will not harm the environment. An environmental impact study report must be obtained.
